It's a little late as MY Summer 3 happened on August the 4th but...!
This years event was another great success despite the threat of thunderstorms and lightning over our sunny Somerset (sometimes the MET office really don't do outside events any favours!) Fortunately the weather held off with only a few showers in the morning so visitors were free to enjoy the fantastic bands, face painting, games, and local craft stalls.
The Perry's (near Ilminster)cider also seemed to be flowing well as people enjoyed music from the IOU's, a local band from Chard-who were immediately booked that day for a late 2012 wedding!

What better way to start blog post #1 than with a few words about toilets?!
Get a bog in Burundi,
a karsy in Cambodia,
or a w.c in D.R.C!
Have you ever thought about supporting a charity but felt that your efforts might be flushed away on admin? (That's the only one I promise!) Of course every charity organisation needs money to survive, but sometimes it would be nice to see your cash making a direct difference.
Step forward 'Toilet Twinning'!
Every day 2.6 billion (that's a lot) of people don't have somewhere safe, private or hygienic to go to the toilet. For just £60 (tank of fuel?) you can now twin your toilet with one in rural Africa (for example).
How does it work? Simply that your £60 is used to build a toilet for a village which is then 'twinned' with yours.
What do I get out it?! Sixty pounds is a lot of money at the moment. A framed certificate to hang in your own toilet showing its location and a grid-reference to look up its position on Google Maps.
Why is Monks Yard involved? Because its a great cause! And also because we are lucky enough to have many toilets, all of which we would like to twin.
So far, and thanks to the efforts of the MY Summer 3 team Monks Yard raised enough money to twin one our eleven toilets. We also need to thank Total Plumbing of Chard who not only supplied a w.c for the day but also very kindly got involved and have pledged to double the total, meaning we will be able to twin two toilets already!
